With the goal of college readiness in mind, we’ve implemented two College Board programs into the freshmen, sophomore and senior level.  Freshmen English and Math teachers attended Springboard training workshops over the summer to learn the strategies and activities College Board recommends for preparing students to take AP classes.  By incorporating the Springboard program, teachers ensure that students use high level thinking skills and develop an understanding of their own learning processes.  Schools that have adopted Springboard have seen impressive improvements in their students’ standardized test and AP test scores.

A revision of the daily schedule allows Freshmen English and Math teachers to create opportunities for hands on, project-based learning that takes full advantage of what Springboard offers.  Each student in the 9th grade has 100 minutes of both English and Math every day, not for the purpose of doing remedial work, but rather for the purpose of delving more deeply into material for increased understanding.  Because there are seven periods in the day, freshmen still take a full schedule of classes, including Science, Art, History, and Spanish.  Upperclassmen also benefit from the new schedule.  Sophomores and Juniors have more time for Science labs, research projects, and the college application process.  Seniors are set up for success in their most challenging courses which are now taught as 100-minute blocks.

We are proud to move in this new direction.  Our students have been working hard, and now we are demanding that they work even harder.  Our have embraced the challenges of Springboard, AP classes, and double block classes.  We are committed to meeting their determination with our very best.
