Mr. Thomas P. O'Neill, III '62 Chairman of the Board of Trustees welcomed the guests who filled the room on the 36th floor at the Boston College Club and thanked them for their commitment to the educational mission of the school. The school has provided an excellent education to working class and immigrant families over the course of its 89 year history. Keynote speaker for the Celebration was Mr. Michael J. Costello, Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and founding corporate sponsor of the school's innovative corporate work study program modeled after Chicago's Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Mr. Costello thanked the members of the greater Boston business community for their commitment and dedication to the goals of the corporate work study program and challenged those considering sponsorship to join the program. Mr. Costello stated, "As is the case with most employment situations, our students' self confidence flourishes through the employment experience and the opportunity enlightens students about numerous career possibilities previously not known to them."
The highlight of the evening was when two senior students Gloria Reyes and Eric Erazo delivered impact statements to those in attendance. In her speech to the guests Ms. Reyes who lives in East Boston, is employed at O'Neill & Associates and will attend Bentley University in the fall expressed her gratitude to have been able to participate in a program that provided so much direction for future success. Mr. Erazo who resides in Everett, worked at the Neighborhood Health Plan, is currently employed at Nutter McClennen and Fish and will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology thanked the guests and stated, "The program has taught me to never give up because through perseverance, a person can accomplish anything that he or she has in mind."
The legacy of excellence embodied in the life of Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, Jr. continues in the extraordinary stories of success and achievement of the young men and women who attend our school today.
